Product Overview
FSQ Insights offers tools that analyze how people move, helping customers understand their audience, track foot traffic trends, measure customer journeys, and identify cross-visitation patterns. These tools include customizable options and filters based on demographics, making it easy for non-experts to interpret the visualized insights.

My Role
I have been overseeing the product with PMs and collaborating with cross-functional teams. My primary responsibilities included conducting research such as competitive analysis, visual audit, and designing data visualizations for various objectives. Additionally, I have contributed to shaping the overall user journey for Insights, including aspects like onboarding, emails, and sharing feature etc.

Design Process
From December 2023, our design-to-development phase for the beta launch lasted five months.
Initially, we defined the key goals and requirements for each report, prioritizing tasks and features based on our timeline and data feasibility.
Conducting competitive analysis guided our decisions on what to include and exclude, ensuring visual consistency across products using our design system.

Conducting competitive analysis guided our decisions on what to include and exclude, ensuring visual consistency across products using our design system.

After finalizing our data, we focused on finding clear ways to show complex information and make it easier to understand. Testing with users was key to improving features and deciding what to prioritize.

We developed query bar elements such as date pickers and multi-select dropdowns, maintaining consistent interaction patterns across our tools using our established design system.
Throughout the initial development phase, we maintained a focus on rigorous design QA and iteratively enhanced the UI/UX to achieve optimal results.

1. FSQ Insights Overview Page

FSQ Insights Overview Page
This 'Overview' page allows existing users to explore product capabilities, discover new features, engage with their tools, and learn more about the overall product.
This 'Overview' page allows existing users to explore product capabilities, discover new features, engage with their tools, and learn more about the overall product.
Goal
By collaborating with the marketing and product teams, we worked to establish a clear objective and logical content order for the Insights product landing page. Our goal was to distinguish this page from the marketing page, focusing on enhancing the experience for existing users rather than promoting the product to new users.
Based on these considerations, we prioritized the section order as follows: Carousel (Discover) → Tools Cards (Explore) → Guides (Learn More), while maintaining a consistent UI style.

2. Movement Pivot + Data Visualization

Overview
“Movement Pivot” is a flexible and dynamic data explorer tool that enables customers to explore various segments of movement data and customize a table schema to suit their needs effectively.

Goal
To enhance our table view, our objective was to introduce flexibility for users to seamlessly switch between table view and visual chart options like Heatmaps and Small Multiples. Heatmaps and Small Multiples are arrays of graphs displayed on the same scale, organized in rows or grids, designed to streamline data presentation.

3. Customer Journey

Overview
"Customer Journey" lets users see which places customers tend to visit before and after, all on the same day. These insights help customers gain a clearer understanding of their customers' real-world journeys.

Goal
We aimed to develop the best way to present this information to the customer: How can we visually illustrate customers’ real-world journeys?
The ranking categories/chains should ensure clarity that if a category appears in both before and after lists, the order of ranking/percentages determines its likelihood of appearing.

4. Cross Visitation

Overview
"Cross Visitation" enables users to view the exact percentage of overlap in visits between their brand and competitors' brands. These insights into cross-shopping complement the analysis of customer journeys, providing a comprehensive understanding of where else customers and shoppers are likely to spend their time and money during their real-world journeys.

Goal
Our objective was to provide users with seamless access to the exact percentage overlap metric (penetration) for each chosen chain in their analysis, presenting all possible variations in a unified view.
Additionally, users should have the capability to isolate and visualize any individual column of data from the output table in a bar chart format.

5. Indexed Foot Traffic

Overview
"Indexed Foot Traffic" displays trends in foot traffic over time, from period A to period B. Users can interact with the data to extract meaningful insights or specific data points at different intervals throughout the selected timeframe.

Goal
Our goal was to integrate line charts for presenting unique insights across multiple dimensions. We focused on developing clear query selectors to manage the simultaneous selection of chains/categories effectively, ensuring a smooth user experience.

6. Change In Visits

Overview
“Change in Visits” analysis is a complementary to the indexed foot traffic analysis by focusing solely on the overall percentage change metric.

Goal
We had to create a tool that effectively displays changes in visits between the focus period and comparison period for chosen chains and categories, incorporating multiple dimensions into a clear and intuitive interface.

7. POI Maps

Overview
The POI map dashboard in Insights enables users to choose from various dimensions such as DMA, Chain, or Category.
When users modify one or more selections, the map updates dynamically to show relevant Points of Interest (POIs) within the specified geographical area. Users can also view POI rankings based on their selected criteria.

Goal
Our objective was to develop a map showcasing X POIs across Y DMAs and Z Categories for multiple Chains, complete with data statistics for internal use initially, but eventually accessible to customers to answer questions such as:
How many locations belong to a specific X chain? Which exact locations are included in that chain?
